Alto Pass was in the prime viewing area for the 2017 Eclipse and will be again in just a few short years.  We have so much to offer visitors in the Shawnee Region.  Nature lovers have an abundance of trails to choose from, several of them geared for the occasional hiker or children.  There are excellent rock climbing locations for the more adventurous visitors.  We have one of the best zip lines in the country.  Our region offers great biking trails.  There are lavender farms, strawberry and blueberry patches, and a bison ranch.  They start picking peaches in June.  Apples and other farm fresh produce are available at the farm stores.  Don't miss the orchards in springtime bloom.  Watch for festivals and music every weekend at the wineries.  Don't miss the food and wine pairing weekends.  Yum!   And before we know it, the beautiful fall colors will be here.  There is something for everyone to enjoy in Southern Illinois.  Have a busy day and then come back to a relaxing retreat at Cave Creek!

Alto Pass , IL , United States

On the western side of the Shawnee Wine Trail, we are just outside Alto Pass and close to Bald Knob Cross of Peace. Cave Creek Cabins are located between Pomona Natural Bridge and Trail of Tears State Parks. Close to great hiking at the Little Grand Canyon or good fishing at Cedar Lake. Cedar Lake also has a great hiking trail around the lake with beautiful views, bluffs and a waterfall after the rain. If you are a thrill seeker, there is a great Zip Line Adventure close by in the Shawnee or learn to repel in Giant City State Park. You could go horseback riding or take a pottery class at nearby Alto Pass Clay Works. Enjoy the harvest bounty from our neighbors at the Rendleman Orchard Farm Store, where you can get fresh picked produce (or maybe just some famous apple cider donuts) in season. Did you know there was a Darn Hot Pepper farm and a lavender farm close by? There are also several good golf courses in our region. And in the summer you could take in a Southern Illinois Miners baseball game. On August 21, 2017, join us in Southern Illinois for prime viewing of the total Eclipse. So in addition to the great wineries and growing number of breweries, there are a lot of activities to enjoy in Southernmost Illinois. Come and visit us soon.

Wonderful weekend getaway!

Date of Stay:

The cabin was very neat and clean and perfect for a girls weekend! Great outdoor area as well. Would definitely recommend!

Lovely in the fall!

Date of Stay:

We really enjoyed our stay at Cave Creek Cabins. They are newly built and the owners clearly care about their guests and this property. Many handcrafted elements, beautiful deck on the upper and lower levels overlooking the creek. Lovely in the fall. Perfect for our stay on the wine trail.

Perfect for a ladies group!

Date of Stay:

Perfect place for a ladies group, with some time spent on the wine trail. Looking forward to booking again when the weather is warmer and we can spend more "outdoor" time on the decks and at the fire pit. Perfect quiet location and very clean and comfortable!

We were blown away!

Date of Stay:

Wow! We were blown away with all Cave Creek Cabins have to offer. Not only are the cabins spotless, comfortable and stocked with all the necessities but the setting is amazing. Surrounded by orchards and wineries with great hiking close by, there is plenty to do if you can pull yourself away from the peace of listening to the creek from the deck. Perfect couples getaway or family retreat!

Could I give 10 Stars!

Date of Stay:

Wish I could have given 10 stars! Just got home from three days there! After day of hiking and wine trails wonderful "home" like feel with these cabins! They provided even things I did not expect like charcoal and fluid for grill, lawn chairs, family board games! After the initial shock of no cell service our kids enjoyed their time! Loved that our adult children were able to enjoy their time together and had bedroom tv and access to deck while my husband and I could enjoy our earlier to bed routine! Already discussing what we want to do next time we come!

Fabulous Cabin

Date of Stay:

This cabin exceeded all of our expectations. We will hopefully stay again in the future and highly recommend it.

Wonderful visit. Trees, birds and quiet all close the the wineries. The owner was fantastic!

Date of Stay:

Great cabin for a large crowd. The owner was quick and responsive to our needs. Looking forward to our next visit.

Relaxing comfortable stay

Date of Stay:

Beautiful nicely decorated cabin with top of the line appliances . We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the morning with our cup of coffee listening to the outdoors the stream from the creek and birds in the trees. In the evening hanging out by the campfire is where our family gathered . The owners went over and beyond to welcome us and make our stay perfect. Thank you for everything and for the time we got to spend together for my sons graduation from SIU.

What a perfect weekend!! Great night’s sleep in the quiet country setting and super comfortable bed! Enjoyed our morning coffee listening to the stream on the back deck. Took a scenic drive over to the Shawnee National Forrest and enjoyed a hike and Maple Syrup Fest. Relaxed all afternoon listening to the kids laugh and play in the creek, enjoying nature’s wonders. Can’t wait to go back and enjoy the wineries that are nearby!!

Date of Stay:

These cabins far exceeded our expectations. The furnishings are so comfortable and they have everything there you would ever need and I love how the two cabins connect for large family or friend gatherings too. The creek and hiking and the fire pit area, the list just goes on and on. The location is awesome too right in the heart of many wineries, restaurants and neat things to find and do. We will be back.
